NWAC welcomes applications for the 2010 Helen Bassett Commemorative Student Award prized at $1,000

The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) is pleased to announce it will now be accepting applications for the 2010 Helen Bassett Commemorative Student Award. Prized at $1,000 the award will be granted to four young Aboriginal women in Canada who are pursuing their post secondary studies.
 
 Every year the NWAC Youth Department and Youth Council awards the Helen Bassett Commemorative Student Award to four women under the age of 30 who demonstrate financial need and community involvement, with a goal to contribute either to the social, legal, or economic well-being of Aboriginal women.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation Helps to Promote Lieutenant Governor's Aboriginal Summer Reading Camp Program

THUNDER BAY, ON: Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Grand Chief Stan Beardy together with The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, welcomed more than 100 youth counselors for their orientation today, as they embark on a summer-long effort to help improve literacy skills among youth in NAN communities. The initiative falls under the Lieutenant Governor’s Aboriginal Summer Reading Camp (LGASRC) program.

Dreamcatcher Aboriginal Youth Conference Call for Presenters extended until June 11th

Dreamcatcher 2010 will focus on the teachings of the Four Directions. Presenters are encouraged to incorporate these teachings, where possible, in the objectives of their presentations.
