Nishnawbe Aski Nation Helps to Promote Lieutenant Governor's Aboriginal Summer Reading Camp Program

THUNDER BAY, ON: Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Grand Chief Stan Beardy together with The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, welcomed more than 100 youth counselors for their orientation today, as they embark on a summer-long effort to help improve literacy skills among youth in NAN communities. The initiative falls under the Lieutenant Governor’s Aboriginal Summer Reading Camp (LGASRC) program.

This years focus will be on current priorities for Aboriginal youth and will be reflected in workshops, information booths, Cultural and Recreational Activities, Evening Events and Motivational Speakers

Dreamcatcher 2010 will focus on the teachings of the Four Directions. Presenters are encouraged to incorporate these teachings, where possible, in the objectives of their presentations.

The hills will be alive with Métis culture

It’s a week of festive activities celebrating the Métis culture including a Red River Cart Trek through the Cypress Hills. This year’s Hills Are Alive music and dance cultural fest takes place June 7-13, three more days than last year.
